Other barn-artist facts: Hagan began his painting career in 1998 at the age of 20. Hagan had no formal training for art, instead using a crafted talent and self taught skills to develop his love for large-scale barn art. All of the original 88 Ohio Bicentennial barns were done freehand, and were completed in 4 seasons. During 2004-2006, Hagan painted a series of 17 bicentennial barns in Madison County N.Y. 2007 a series of 12 barns in Niagara county N.Y. Hagan is very proud that Monroe Counties quilt squares are not hung plywood signs, but directly primed & painted art. In 1998, Scott met the legend of all barn painters, Harley Warrick. Warrick is known for his thousands of Mail Pouch Tobacco paintings, and was the last paid painter by the Block Brothers (Mail Pouch) company. Harley gave pointers on scaffolding, equipment, and many stories from the days on the road. Warrick passed away in 2000. Scott never saw him paint a barn. Hagan has a lifetime goal to paint in every state in the country. As of this article, he is up to 8- Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, North Dakota, and New York.
