1.How do you apply the artwork to the barn? The artwork is hand painted to the surface with a brush. Although a sprayer may be used to apply the general painting, it is not used for the application of the artwork. 2. Do you use heavy equipment for the project? I have a specially designed set of scaffolding, similar to what a siding contractor might use on a house. In this manner I won't tear up the ground or have to worry about underground tanks or pipes. Unless the barn is exceptionally tall, this is the way I paint 90% of my work. When working on towers or large buildings, there are times when a man lift is needed. During these times I will be renting such a machine from a local company in your area. 3. Are you insured? Certainly, I carry the necessary liability and workers compensation needed to do this job. 4. How many barns have you painted? While I do not have an exact number, my guess is I am well over 300 barns. I had a big project that got me started in which I painted one barn in every one of Ohio's 88 counties, then we did a few extra to round out the project at 100 barns. Had I realized earlier on that I would be doing this as a career, I would have kept better track of numbers. 5. Can you design the artwork for my barn? Yes. While much of my work happens with a logo already in place, I can work with you on a design of your liking. To this point, I do not charge for this service. Just tell me what your ideas are, and we'll come up with something custom just for you! 6. How much do you charge to paint a barn? Most of my work falls between $1500-$2500. It can be as small as $500 for a simple lettering of your farm name, to $4000 if you are looking to cover the entire end with a mural type of art. It depends on mainly 3 factors- where, what, and the barns current condition. I can quote you an estimate from my office with a picture of your barn, and the artwork you desire to paint. 7. How long does it take to paint the artwork on a barn? Usually 1-3 days. 8. How did you get started painting barns? Please see my Backgrounder page, and my articles about the artist page. 9. How far will you travel? My goal is to paint at least one barn in every state. I travel with a camper and stay on site until the job is completed. One of the perks of my job is getting to see the country and meeting new people, so please contact me even if you feel like you might be to far-I may have another project going in your area! 10. Do you only paint artwork on barns, or can you also do the general painting? While I prefer to do the artwork first, I can also paint your barn from the ground up. Let me tell you that there are many important steps in painting a barn (or house), and even if you have a question about this, send me an e-mail before you hire a contractor to do the general painting. I would be glad to give you tips on the job and how it should be done correctly. I have heard countless stories about "these guys from Carolina". So if I can help you keep your barn lookin' good I'd love to help.
